TOOL: STUFFING IRON, ROUND, LIPFERT FAMILY

Overview

Implement with long slender rounded blade which is flattened and curves outwards at the tip which has a straight edge. The rod is set into a bulbous wooden handle and clamped tight by means of a copper collar. Two sets of striations decorate the handle and the letter 'L' is cut into it near the neck. Used to stuff leather articles with wool, flock, straw, horse hair etc. Presumed to have been used by Otto Lipfert who enjoyed leatherworking in his leisure time. From the Lipfert home at 270 York Street, Subiaco.
