Fairway Grass

This Subject is a common reference to items concerning the history and ongoing maintenance of the grass grown on MGGC’s fairways.

 

Providing a quality turf playing surface is a high priority for golf course fairways and has many complexities. The grass must suit the local environment, have a long growing season, be relatively easy to maintain, and resist other grasses and weeds.

 

MGGC has been successful with wintergreen couch on its fairways. However, this choice was only made almost two decades after the course was originally developed and still requires an intensive maintenance program to control invasive grasses, particularly kikuyu and Parramatta grass.
