About organisation
The Kojonup Historical Collection is now managed by the Shire of Kojonup and is housed in the Old Post Office, Military Barracks, Elverd Cottage and Machinery Sheds.
The Old Post Office houses documents, china, photographs and fabrics collected from Kojonup residents or former residents.
The Military Barrack houses items from early European settlement, Enrolled Pensioner guards and a small number of Noongar items.
Elverd Cottage was built by William McDonnell; an Enrolled Pensioner Guard. On his death it was sold to the Henri Larsen who rented it to the Elverd family until in 1891 it was bought by C.E. Elverd and remained in the Elverd family until the death of Charlie Elverd in 1979, when it passed to C.A. Harrison (a nephew) who donated a portion of land and the cottage to the Kojonup Shire.
The Cottage displays items reflecting a simple domestic life in the late 19th century, early 20th century.
The Machinery sheds located adjacent to Elverd Cottage house a collection of horse drawn farm machinery including spring carts, wagons, sulkies and buggies. There is a collection of Sunshine harvesters, Shearer Stripper, Bagshaw Winnower, John Bungle Chaffcutter.
