The Military Barracks are the only remaining evidence of the early establishment of settlers, British Military and enrolled pensioner guards in Kojonup, Western Australia.
The British Military regiments that were stationed in Kojonup Barracks were:
• September 1837 - August 1838, 21st Regiment, Officer-in-charge Lieutenant C.F. Armstrong and seven privates.
• 1841-1847- 51st Regiment, Officer-in-Charge Lieutenant G. Egerton-Warbuton.
• 1847-1849 – 96th Regiment, Officer-in-Charge, Corporal R. Norrish, Privates; C. Atkinson, J. Baker, J. Bateman, W. Best, E. Blyth, S. Blyth, J. Bowra
• 1849-1851 - 99th Regiment
• 1851, Officer-in-charge Corporal J. Hamilton
• 1854, Officer-in-charge Corporal J. Robinson
In the 1850’s Enrolled pensioner guards were stationed in Kojonup. Pensioner soldiers who remained in the district with their families were allocated 10-acre Pensioner Grants, which can still be identified by the prefix “P” on the Title Number.
