Ship's Candlestick Holder
c. 1843Two bell shaped holders which are attached to a centre candle stick holder, and the two bell shaped holders are mounted on a square base. At the bottom of the candlestick holder is a large lead weight at the base which helps to keep the candlestick upright. The candlestick holder itself can swing and thus the remains upright regardless of the ship's movement. At the top of the candlestick holder, the middle piece can be pushed down to insert a candle.
This ship's candlestick holder was brought out on the ship the 'Jana' in Jan 1843 by Corporal Richard Norrish of the British 96th Regiment, who then brought it to Kojonup in 1846.
