This metal candle holders had a lever on the candle stick section to push the candle up the holder. A small metal plate has been welded over the top of the hole - no explanation.

Contextual Information

Even though the hole for the candle to be pushed up is sealed, a candle can still be placed on the top plate and the item used for lighting. The item demonstrates that when people don't have the appropriate sized candles to use the item that they make changes to the item so that they can use it for their new purpose.
