PATCHWORK, TEA COSY
An excellent example of the crazy patchwork craze taking place worldwide mid 19th C. It shows a wide range of general embroidery stitches of varying quality. Linked to pride in home and general availability of tea as a drink. The design is a padded semicircle filled with wool and a lining of quilted pink silk showing little evidence of use as a tea cosy. (one stain) Multiple fabrics are used on the outer surface. A pink plaited cord is attached by hand at centre top and bottom. Remnant of pink lining at the seam.
