Souvenir - St Mary's Church dish
Small oblong dish described as "sweet dish" by the makers. Original colour probably white, now cream (see condition). Asymmetrical (wavy) edges. Originally a gold line on edge, now worn. In the centre of the dish, a transfer print of St Mary's Church, Busselton with a tree in the foreground and a yellow sandy road between the tree and the church. Indented in the body underneath the glaze on the bottom of the dish is 332 Sweet
No history is known however it has been well used by either the Salvation Army or by one of their parishioners.

Beneath the picture, the words: ST MARY'S CHURCH, BUSSELTON BUILT 1843/ OLDEST STONE CHURCH IN WA.
On base of the dish: SANDLAND WARE/ LANCASTER & SANDLAND LTD/ HANLEY/ STAFFORDSHIRE /ENGLAND.
This piece is historically significant to Busselton, the transfer print which was obviously sent to the manufacturers for a special order is from an older drawing of the St Mary's Church and even allowing for artistic licence is very interesting.
Aesthetically it is an interesting piece which was mass produced by the manufacturers and appears with many transfers on the front; "In an Old World Garden" and "Down Somerset Way" are just two.
Scientifically, perhaps a lesson on not putting china objects in a hot oven!
