Ancient Order of Foresters Gavel
Hardwood Gavel with engraved metal inscription plate that belonged to GS Pitts
The Ancient Order of Foresters originated in Leeds, England in 1834 and in Victoria, Australia in 1849. Originally a not for profit organisiation whose mission was to provide financial and social support to members and their families in times of hardship, particularly during the Depression and both World Wars. The societies local branches are called 'courts ' rather than 'lodges'.

A Gavel is a small ceremonial mallet used to call for attention in meetings or to punctuate rulings and proclamations and would have been used by the Ancient Order.
Brother G.S.Pitts would have used this Gavel at such meetings.
Historic: It is the most common implement of authority and order with any judiciary proceeding
Social: It is of particular importance to the Ancient order of Forestersas it embodies the customs and traditions that are important to this Society.
Condition:It is in a very good condition for its type
