Contextual information

Raymond Parker WARBURTON was employed as an Electrical Engineer on board the HMAT A4 Pera, a transport ship owned by P&O London, which was leased by the Commonwealth during the First World War. Raymond was employed on 1/12/1915 in London, although he officially boarded the HMAT Pera in Melbourne on the 18/10/1914 and sailed to Albany Western Australian, where the first convoy amassed in King George Sound and departed on the 01/11/1914.
The Pera was torpedoed and sunk on the 19/10/1917, and later Raymond was transferred unto the ship, ‘SS Shropshire’. Raymond was discharged on the 13/06/1919 at Sydney, Australia.
This commemorative note is part of the collection of Raymond WARBURTON’s personal items. The note would have accompanied a ‘1967 Gallipoli Medallion, a bronze medallion issued to surviving veterans or their next of kin, in commemoration on the 50th Anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign.
