Historical information

Images are from the Rutherford Album which is housed at the archives of the Rottnest Island Heritage Authority at Kingstown Barracks, Rottnest Island. The photographer was William Dennis Dawson, a professional photographer in Midland Junction. The images are dated between 1901 and 1902.

P100-16. The first school, then council chambers at Midland Junction. The building was on Newcastle Road (Great Northern Highway) close to the junction of Helena Street.

P100-17. Midland Junction Public Hall. The hall was located on the corner of Helena Street and Newcastle Road (Great Northern Highway). The hall was later redeveloped to become the Carnegie Library.

P100-20. Helena Vale Hotel. Located on Margaret Road (Railway Parade). Later known as The Stockman, the hotel was demolished after being damaged by a fire in 1996.
