Australian Red Cross Society (Victorian Division) collection tin
c. 1960Cylindrical metal collection tin with a printed paper covering issued by the Victorian Division of the Australian Red Cross Society (ARCS) in the 1960s.
The paper is cream in colour with red writing and illustrations. It features a kangaroo holding a Red Cross flag with the words 'Please "HOP IN" and "POP IN" your SPARE COINS..." above the kangaroo and "and "Help Red Cross Do a World of Good" below.
Further around is information about the collection tin and the issued number, followed by details of the address of the Victorian Division of the ARCS.
The lid of the tin is deeply recessed and has a central slot trough which coins could be inserted. The base is plain, shiny metal.
This collection tin was issued by the ARCS (Victorian Division) to an individual to raise money in their own home by placing their loose change inside. When full, it would have been returned to the address shown in Melbourne.
It is likely to date to the 1960s as the kangaroo motif on the tin matches the felt kangaroo sold to raise funds for the Red Cross in 1963.
