St. John Ambulance Brigade celluloid fundraising pin
c. 1940St John Ambulance Brigade fundraising celluloid pin featuring the black and white image of a woman dressed in uniform, cape and hat. A St John Ambulance Brigade Maltese Cross badge appears on the cape.
The pin follows the contours of the woman to the bottom of the skirt before broadening to a base. The base is geometric in shape and has the words 'St. John' on one side, 'Ambulance' in the centre and 'Brigade' on the other side. There are some closely spaced horizontal lines behind the legs and around the feet.
It has a metal pin threaded through a small hole attachment. The reverse of the pin is buff coloured card and there are no markings.
According to the Australian War Memorial, the indoor dress uniform of the St. John Ambulance Brigade Nursing Division during World War Two comprised a white frock, black cape, white handkerchief/headscarf, grey stockings and black shoes. The image on the pin matches this with the exception of the hat rather than headscarf.
