'Blinky Bill' calendar 1944
1944Oval shaped cream coloured card calendar featuring an image of Blinky Bill the koala, a character created by artist and author, Dorothy Wall.
Blinky Bill is wearing a green Australian Army uniform, with rising sun badges visible on the collars, a green tin hat with leather chinstrap, and is smoking a pipe. He has a cheeky expression on his face.
There are voids in the cardboard around the outline of Blinky Bill. A small calendar is affixed to the bottom of the card within paper covers, with the calendar dates stapled inside.
The back is plain with the exception of the name 'Mrs Mullinger' written in pencil.
Blinky Bill was a character created by author and illustrator Dorothy Wall. He was a koala who resembled a small mischievous boy, but who nevertheless was true in appearance to the real animal.
Several books were written about Blinky Bill, with one of the main messages being about environmental responsibility. The title 'Blinky Bill Joins the Army' was written in 1940 and published by Angus & Robertson in 1943.
This calendar illustration is similar to the cover art for the book which features Blinky Bill holding an Australian flag, dressed in uniform and tin hat.
A biography of Dorothy Wall is attached as a supplementary file.
