PHOTOGRAPH: CELEBRATION OF LAST TRAM, HAY STREET, SUBIACO, 1958
1958The photograph was taken from the Hay Street/Rokeby Road junction celebrating the last tram to travel on Hay Street. The tram is moving east along Hay Street, passing the Subiaco Hotel. The tram is hung with streamers and various people are holding on to the outside, and the tram conductor is hanging off the back entrance. Spectators and cars are lining both sides of the street, with two young boys on bicycles in the left foreground. The spectators are in casual clothing with many children sitting on adults' shoulders. Included amongst the spectators are the players from the military/brass band featured in P.85_75. There is an advertisement on the tram for 'Hardy's Indigestion Remedy'. Shop signs along Rokeby Road adjacent to the hotel: 'Brown's Gown Manufacturers', also 'Brown's Sportswear; Truck Centre; Coca Cola. Signage on Hotel: Bottle Department; Saloon Bar; Sun Lounge.
