Overview

The photograph features a group of men standing in the platform shelter (including Mr Mackay) with another man further down the platform to the left. A train is approaching the platform. Advertisements line the platform. Distinguishable are: 'T.C. Williams, Black Gypsy Tobacco st Imported'. 'M. Higham and Sons, Drapers, Grocers, Ironmongers etc., High Street, Fremantle and North Fremantle. For best value in the colony.' Bushland is shown in the background. The handwritten inscription on the back reads: 'My father, Colin Mackay (the smallest man) came from N.S.W. Years ago before going to Mundaring 1898, 1897 or 98?' Typewritten addition explains: 'Railway Line was established in 1881. Perth-Fremantle Railway - platform at Axon Street bridge for Sisters of Mercy orphanage. Station called 'Subiaco''. Battye Library negative number: 5153P. Restrictions: Pencil note on back states 'Acknowledge Battye'.
