WWI fundraising button 'For Our Brave Ally'
1918Circular fundraising badge or button sold to support the French people in December 1918, following the Armistice.
It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
It has a blue edge around a central area of white. The words 'For our brave ally' are written in blue around the top of the button. In the centre there are two French flags with their flagpoles emerging from a red cross which has rays extending outwards and upwards. Below this is the date (Dec. 1918) and lower border with a wreath of green leaves and red flowers.
The maker's name is written in white on the blue rim.
The reverse has a metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment.
During and after World War One, fundraising initiatives were a crucial part of supporting countries that had suffered significant damage. These efforts aimed to aid civilian populations, provide relief to refugees, and support the rebuilding of war-torn regions.
This button was sold to raise money for the people of France in December 1918.
