c. 1915Colourful fundraising button featuring the portrait of Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, Commander of the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front.
It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
He is wearing his uniform with red collar tabs designating his rank and a peaked cap with a lot of gold braid. The background is light grey in colour. His name is written in white block letters underneath his portrait.
The whole button is enclosed within a solid gilt frame with an attached brooch pin. The gold metal is somewhat dirty and scratched.
There is no visible maker's mark.
Field Marshal Douglas Haig, 1st Earl Haig (born 19 June 1861, died 29 January 1928) was a senior officer of the British Army. During World War One, he commanded the British Expeditionary Force on the Western Front from late 1915 until the end of the war.
