Historical information

The 2009 Toodyay bushfire started in the afternoon of 29 December near the intersection of River Road and Folewood Road, believed to have been caused by a fallen power-line. It burned rapidly fanned by winds estimated to be in excess of 40 kph. The fire was eventually brought under control early the next morning on 30 December. The fire destroyed a total of 38 homes and approximately 3,000 hectares of land, causing extensive damage estimated at more than $50 million. More than 70 homes, plus sheds and other structures, were severely damaged and another 100 suffered some damage. No lives were lost.

The 'Hope from Ashes' benefit concert was held at the Toodyay Showgrounds in January 2010. Australian bands, including West Australian musicians, volunteered to entertain the massive crowd. All people who had lost their homes were given a free ticket to attend and the people who had damage to their homes were given a discounted ticket. Adam Harvey and Angry Anderson were a highlight, as well as The Novocaines from Northam.
