Full title: 'The Church Psalter & Hymn book comprising The Psalter or Psalms of David, together with the canticles, printed for chanting, 510 metrical hymns, six sanctuses, and nine responses to the commandments".
Assembled by Rev. William Mercer MA. Published 1862 by James Nisbet & Co, 21 Berners Street & Cramer, Beale & Wood, 201 Regent st, London.'
378 pages, some torn and generally in soiled condition.

Historical information

Ownership transferred to museum during the vacation of the former Sisters of Mercy site by the Franciscans of the Immaculate Heart. This religious order had been in residence here at 36 Stirling Terrace, Toodyay as the Marian Friary of Our Lady Help of Christians since approx 1997. It was the first community of this order established in Australia from New Bedford, Massachusetts, USA and was recalled in 2017.
The book is assumed to have been used by the Sisters of Mercy during their time at Toodyay between 1883 and 2003. The St Aloyisius Convent of Mercy School at the Stirling Terrace site in Toodyay was was run by the Sisters of Mercy between 1903 and 1971. Following the closure of the school some of the Sisters remained at Toodyay for pastoral work until the early 2000s.
