BOOT, CHILD'S, 19TH CENTURY, GOOD LUCK TALISMAN

Overview

Leather remnants of child's boot in damaged, fragile & incomplete condition. Leather is rigid, boot is misshapen, leather torn & cracked. Heel has separated from boot.
a) Boot - Metal toecap affixed to front. Leather sections curled & separating. Tongue present but side sections for laces appear to be missing. Heal section affixed to boot is cracked into 3 pieces
b) Heel - Appears to have once been affixed to boot over damaged heal section, made up of 4 separate layers

Historical information

Found in May 2016 inside footings near back door of 98 Stirling Terrace, Toodyay (also known as Mrs. O'Reilly's Cottage). Located in second section of cottage built around 1884 during the second era of construction of the house. Believed to have been concealed as part of a tradition of warding away evil influences
