1917Woorak Methodist Sunday School certificate awarded to Doris Pargeter in 1917. The certificate is printed on card in red and blue on a cream background.
The crossed flags of Australia (Blue Ensign) and England (Union Jack) are depicted in the top left corner and a decorative border appears around the outside of the certificate in blue.
Much of the writing on the certificate is pre-printed, with the specific details of the location of the Sunday School, the recipient, the charity chosen to receive war funds, and the office bearers from the church and the date then written in black ink in fancy cursive. A quote from the bible is written in red ink across the bottom.
Woorak is a rural locality near Nhill in north-west Victoria, known for its early German Lutheran settlement and schools.
Doris Evelyn Maud Pargeter was born on 19 January 1901 in Nhill, Victoria, making her 16 years of age when she was awarded this certificate.
Violet May Keam was born in Woorak in 1892.
Alfred Henry Schultz was born in Naracoorte, South Australia on 28 June 1873, but was residing in Woorak by 1896.
This certificate of one of several held in the collection where the recipient has foregone a monetary award or trophy and instead donated the equivalent value to a war fund, in this case the Red Cross.
