Metal and enamel fob presented to Red Cross Voluntary Donor, M.Reid
Circular, metal and enamel fob on a short section of chain presented to Red Cross Voluntary Donor, M.Reid, by the Australian Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service in Western Australia.
The front features an enamelled blue band around the inside of the thin metal border. The words 'Blood Transfusion Service W.A.' in gold are embedded within the blue enamel. The central area is white enamel with a red cross in the middle. There is a metal loop attached to the top of the badge where a ring and the chain are attached.
The reverse is plain metal, with the words 'Red Cross Voluntary Donor' in the top section, underneath which are three horizontal lines, used to guide the engraver. The name of the donor and their blood type are engraved. The name of the maker appears at the lower edge.
Sheridan’s has been making badges in Perth since 1913, and has created hundreds of local association, club and military badges in Western Australia over the last century.
The date of manufacture of this particular badge is unknown, but the style aligns with other Red Cross badges of the World War Two period. Other more recent blood donor badges are held in the collection, many with milestone numbers of donations included.
