Overview

Colour print. Bovells, pastrycook business at 24 Bay View Terrace, Claremont. The pediment is tan coloured with white decorative outlines. Short brown and white striped blinds are lowered in front of the windows. Painted across the front of the verandah is [BOVELL'S of Claremont EST 1928]. Part of the next shop is on the right, there is a rubbish container on the footpath and a dark blue car is parked in front.

Historical information

Mrs Bovell started cooking sponges and later pies in home kitchen. Sold through sister's shop/lending library next to "Claremont Pub". Later rented a shop at 24 Bay View Terrace with husband Percy, a motor trimmer who left his trade to become a pastrycook. Eventually bought the premisis and the one next door. 3 generations of Bovell family were piemakers (Percy, Percy's son John and John's son David. Until 1987, when closed due to increasing rents, was the oldest family business in Bay View Terrace.
