POSTCARD: 'A HAPPY NEW YEAR', ROB ROY TARTAN

1911
Overview

Vertical postcard in red and black tartan labelled as 'THE ROB ROY / TARTAN' in the top right corner. There is a bouquet of white heather in the middle with a white banner below which reads ' A HAPPY / NEW YEAR' in red text. There is The Lion Rampant (the Royal Banner of Scotland) - a yellow crest with a red lion - in the top left corner. The lion is facing ledt, in its hind legs and surrounded by a recorative border. The image surface has scraped away along the edges, the bottom right corner has a fold mark and the corners are stubbed.

The reverse has a cursive message written in black ink, which is dated 'Brisbane / 29/5/1911'. The message is addressed to 'Miss(?) Olga Philp at '978 Hay St / Perth, WA' on the right hand side. The message is written by Olga's father and reads:

'My(?) Own Darling Olga / I was so pleased to / hear from you I hope / Mama is better. I am / glad to see that you / & Ethel are getting on / well at school & hope / you all keep well / I will write you a / long letter next mail(?) / when I am writing'.

'To mama, give my love / & kisses to mama, all the / others with fondest love / I remain your loving father'.

There are lots of X-es below the message and in the place of the stamp in the top right hand corner.
