CORSELETTE (CORSET): WARNER'S LE GANT MERRY WIDOW

Overview

Cream-coloured lace and embroidered nylon corselette with boning. The corset closes in the back with a set of 13 hook and eye closures. The cups of the corset have underwire. The garment has four detachable suspenders made from elastic with white metal clips.

On the inside of the corselette is a tag which reas 'Merry Widow' / a WARNER ORIGINAL'. A second tag is also attached with reads 'Merry Widow / BY WARNER'S LE GANT' on the front and on the back reads ' MADE UNDER / LICENCE FROM / THE WARNER / BROS. CO. / U.S.A.'.

Historical information

Item was donated by Mrs Claire Shaw (nee Langthorn) who wore the corselette under her wedding dress to accenuate the dress style. Her measurments were 34 inch bust, 24 inch waist, 34 inch hips. She bought the Corselette from a store in Perth city. Claire lived at 29 Kershaw Street, Subiaco from 1945-1956 and attended Subiaco Primary School. Claire married E. Jeffrey Shaw at Wesley Church, Perth, on the 1 December 1956. Claire was 21 and Jeff was 22 years old. After their wedding, they moved to 82 Bidwood Street, Innaloo, 6018. Claire's sister, Lyn, made her wedding dress.
