Historical information

The original Australian Baseball League (ABL) commenced in October 1989, representing Australia's first professional baseball league. The first ABL game was contested between Perth Heat and Adelaide Giants at Parry Field Baseball Stadium in Perth on 27 October 1989, with the Giants winning 8-5. At the time, the league replaced the Claxton Shield as the top baseball competition in the country, with eight teams from Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
