1989‒90 Perth Heat Yearbook – First Edition
1990This A4-size, 68-page magazine is the first edition of the Perth Heat Yearbook, dated 1989-90. It has glossy light card front and back covers and internal pages are printed in colour on glossy white paper. The front cover has a black background with a central image of a yellow and orange baseball fireball. At the top of the cover, printed in white and red, is the Perth Heat name and logo. Also in white text at the top of the cover, is the year date and the price of the yearbook. Below the fireball, in white text, is a statement about the Australian Baseball League and the number of the yearbook issue. The back cover has an advertisement for a Western Australian brewery.
The original Australian Baseball League (ABL) commenced in October 1989, representing Australia's first professional baseball league. The first ABL game was contested between Perth Heat and Adelaide Giants at Parry Field Baseball Stadium in Perth on 27 October 1989, with the Giants winning 8-5. At the time, the league replaced the Claxton Shield as the top baseball competition in the country, with eight teams from Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

The Western Australian team Perth Heat was a foundation member of the Australian Baseball League in 1989. Lyall Barwick was a member of the Heat's inaugural playing roster and has donated this first edition of the Perth Heat Yearbook to the Baseball WA Museum and Archives.
