Match baseball from Nissan Motor Co. v. Australia game - Perth 1973
c. 1973A standard size, white leather baseball with red stitching to the seams. The match day ball is discoloured and stained from use. It is stamped with the manufacturer's trademark and the name of the team. It has also been hand-inscribed with the names of the competing teams, the location of the match and the year date. It bears the handwritten signature and playing number of one of the visiting team members.
In 1973 the Nissan Motor Company baseball team played an exhibition game against a representative Australian team at Subiaco Oval in Perth, Western Australia.
This match day baseball, signed by a member of the visiting Japanese team, was gifted to Mel O'Hern, a member of the Australian representative team.

The baseball was donated to the Baseball WA Museum and Archives by Australian team member Mel O'Hern. It is a rare addition to the Museum's collection of baseballs and in particular from the 1973 exhibition match.
The baseball was manufactured in Japan c.1970s.
However, the ball was signed in 1973 in Perth at Subiaco Oval (the point of significance).
As a rare addition to the Museum's collection, this ball's historic significance comes with its use in an international baseball tournament. Its social significance is represented by the signature of a member of one team and the gifting of it to a member of the opposing team. It is in good condition for its age and usage and comes with excellent provenance.
