[Note: The photo caption says '1970', however it has been explained by David Cubbage, a team member, that they were selected and trained in 1970 but played in the Australian Championships in Brisbane in January 1971.]
This under-15 Western Australian State baseball team played in the Australian Championship held in Brisbane in early January 1971. Team members are:
Back row: Max Coe (Coach), Drew Wharton, Glenn Weir, Darryl Blakeney, Mick Gordon, Steve Willis, Kim Weir,
Sam Groundlands (Manager).
Middle row: Geoff Ellis, Rob Chappell, John White, Greg Paull, David Cubbage, John Thomas.
Front row: Geoff Moyle, Steve Davis, Greg Smith.
Bat boy: Alan Davis (Steve’s brother).
The team travelled to Brisbane by train (five days there and five days back) and spent six days in Brisbane. Western Australia lost 1-0 against Victoria in the final because of an interference call on a rundown between 3rd and home.
