Australian National Baseball Team Cap
This Australian Team baseball cap is made of dark green cotton fabric. Embroidered on the front of the crown is a cartoonish kangaroo in light-brown thread holding a tan baseball bat. Behind the kangaroo is a letter 'A' embroidered in yellow thread and outlined in white thread. Five embroidered stars, in silver thread, surround the other symbols. The panels of the crown have green stitched eyelets, and the top button is covered in green fabric. The peak is lined with grey fabric with the player's number handwritten in black felt pen on the underside. Inside the cap is a white sweatband and a manufacturer's label.
This cap belonged to Matthew Sheldon-Collins, a well-known Victorian, Australian and Olympic baseball player, who had a distinguished playing career spanning the early 1980s to the late 1990s. It is not known whether this is a playing cap or a training cap, however it probably dates from the late 1980s to early 1990s.

The cap was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Matthew Sheldon-Collins and complements the museum's collection of Australian baseball caps.
Matthew Sheldon-Collins contributed to the development of baseball in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. In 1997 he announced his retirement as a player to assume the role of Director at the Victorian Institute of Sport. In 2007 he was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame. Sheldon-Collins' player's number '13' is hand-inscribed on the cap, which has both historic and social significance, and comes with impeccable provenance.
