A 1936 Western Australian State Baseball Cap. The black cap has a yellow triangle on the front of the crown. Inside the triangle is a black swan above the letters 'W.A' and the date '1936'.

Historical information

This baseball cap was worn in 1936 by Frank Oliver, who was first baseman for the Western Australia State team in a series of Test matches against Victoria, played in Perth. It was the first time a Western Australian team competed against another Australian state.
The following year Western Australia competed for the first in the Australian Baseball Championships Claxton Shield Series held in Adelaide. Competing teams were WA as well as New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

This Western Australian State cap has been loaned to the Baseball WA Museum and Archives by Frank Oliver's family.

Statement of significance

Even though the condition of the baseball cap is poor, it is a rare example of Western Australia's first State baseball cap. It has great historical significance with impeccable provenance.
