In June 1936 the West Australian Women's Baseball Association was formed. On 7 July 1936 the 'West Australian' newspaper's 'Women in Sport' column reported:
"The association has started well with the formation of six or seven clubs, some of which may field two teams. Most of the clubs have already nominated their coaches, and next week each man will take his respective team in hand.
"Practice games will be continued throughout the winter until spring, when grading games will take place for the purpose of interclub matches the following season.
"With Mrs. R. Denford at their head, a ladies' Blue Sox team has been formed. The members will be coached by Mr. Denford, and they will adopt a similar uniform to that of the men. At present 15 or 16 girls have signified their intention of joining, and there is promise of more to come."

The formation of the Western Australian Women's Baseball Association, and subsequent formation of the first women's baseball teams in 1936 was an historic moment in women's sport in this State. This Bue Sox image identifies some of those women.
