Overview

A white leather baseball with red stitching to the seams. Printed on two sides of the ball is the red, white and black logo of the Perth Heat baseball team. On another side, printed in black, is the name of the team and the date and occasion the ball commemorates.

Historical information

The Alcohol, Think Again Perth Heat acknowledged that the 1996/97 Australian Baseball League season marked a major shift in their history, with the club leaving its traditional home of Parry Field Ballpark for the home of Western Australian cricket; the WACA Ground. This ball commemorates the historic opening night of the season at the WACA.

With the demise of the ballpark at Parry Field, where Perth Heat had regularly hosted a full house, the cricket ground proved to be less accommodating for baseball spectators. It would be another eight years before baseball again had a purpose-built ballpark at Tom Bateman Reserve in Thornlie.
