1949 Wests Baseball Club Premiers pocket patch
A 1949 Wests Baseball Club rectangular pocket patch of black woven fabric, with a strip of dark green braid stitched across the top edge. Light grey woollen material in the shape of a shield, is attached to the patch. The outer border of the shield is embroidered with pale grey thread with a thinner, inner border of green thread. Within the shield is more embroidery, in green thread, indicating the name of the club, the year, the winners of the patch, two crossed baseball bats and a baseball.
The Wests Baseball Club was one of the inaugural Western Australian baseball clubs formed in the 1930s, in response to the growing popularity of the sport.
The 'Wests' club took its name from 'West Australian Newspapers Ltd'.
This pocket patch was awarded to members of the club's premiership 'B' grade team in 1949.

The pocket patch is on permanent loan to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the Allen family. It was the property of Ray Allen, a prominent player with Wests Baseball Club in the 1950s and a stalwart of Little League and Junior Baseball Development in the Tuart Hill area for many years.
A rare example of a pocket patch from the late 1940s awarded to a premiership team. This item has historic significance as the Wests Baseball Club was one of the inaugural Western Australian baseball clubs which now no longer exists. The patch was owned by Ray Allen, a member of the club.
