TOOL, SEWING KIT

Overview

An unusual item of sewing equipment which can be clamped to a tabletop was purchased at an antique shop in the UK. Carved from a single piece of bone, it includes a bulbous pin cushion at the top and a tiny needle case and lid within a filigree cylinder. The lower section has decorative bands above and below a cut out section to fit onto a table with a large carved screw to tighten the clamp. The three parts screw together to make the whole.
