G CLAMP

Overview

Clamping device in the shape of the letter 'G'. Body formed from flat bar and has reinforcing material welded along the spine. An anvil is fixed to one side of the 'G' and threaded nut welded to the adjacent end through a long bolt with a rotatable foot to communicate with the anvil. The other end of the bolt has a round head with a hole to pass a suitable rod to tighten the clamp. Try squares are used to measure 90 degree angles in woodwork.

Historical information

Tools used by Charles Duncan in his Blacksmith and Wheelright shop. The shop was called Duncan & McNamee and was located on the corner of Jull Street and Third Road, Armadale. It was open from 1926-1938. G clamps are used to hold a workpiece in place.
