1947 West Australian Baseball League grand final winners - South Perth
A photograph of the 1947 South Perth 'A' grade grand final winners of the West Australian Baseball League. Nine of the team members are wearing their playing uniform, which consists of dark trousers with a light stripe down the side, and a paler shirt with the initials 'SP' on the front. The tenth person is not in uniform. The photo was taken on a playing field with a bat, several gloves and the silver rose bowl trophy, on the ground in front of the team. The trophy has ribbons attached to the side handles.
The South Perth Baseball Club was formerly the Bristile Baseball Club. In 1947, the first year of competition for the club wearing the South Perth uniform, their 'A' Grade team won the West Australian Baseball League's grand final, defeating Perth by four runs to two at Langley Park.

'SP' [on uniform tops]
The original photograph was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the family of Roy Gooch, who was a member of the 1947 South Perth 'A' Grade team.
This rare 1947 photograph is of the first South Perth Baseball Club 'A' Grade team, formerly the Bristile Baseball Club. Bristile formed in 1936 and was one of the first clubs in the inaugural West Australian Baseball League. The photograph has historical and social significance and good provenance.
