Overview

A Western Australian State baseball team tie of black crepe fabric. Embroidered in the centre of the tie, in gold-coloured thread, is a stylised swan within a shield shape. Above the shield are the letters 'WA' and below the shield is the word 'Baseball'.

Historical information

The 1968 Claxton Shield was the 29th annual Claxton Shield Series, an Australian interstate baseball championships, and was held in Brisbane, Queensland. It was the first year that Don Butler was selected in the Western Australian team and this tie was part of his State uniform.

Contextual Information

Don Butler played outfield in the Western Australian team at the Claxton Shield Baseball Championships in 1968, 1969, 1972, 1973 and 1975. He donated this team tie from his first State selection, to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives.
