Historical information

This photo is of Anders ' Andrew' Johnson, his wife Laura and their daughter Elizabeth who was born in the Wellington area in 1906. Elizabeth was the first of Anders and Laura's children to survive beyond infancy.
Anders Johansan was born in Sweden in 1875 and, aged 20, he migrated to WA arriving aboard the 'Charlotte Padbury' on the 28th October 1895. He spent his first 12 years working in the timber industry in the South West. During this time, he met and married Laura Colton. They were married at St Mary's Church in Busselton on the 25th of April 1904. They had 8 children, six of whom survived beyond infancy. In 1912, the family moved to 7th Road Armadale where Andre purchased 40 acres, built a 2 room house and started up a poulty farm. In 1913, Andre was naturalised as an Australian citizen, Anglisising his name to Andrew Johnson. He died of cancer on the 22nd of December 1922.
