1945
Overview

Image of two women in bridal dresses, with veils and holding flower boquets, and two men in WWII military uniforms. They are standing outside the doorway to a brick building.
The man and woman in the middle are William (Bill) James Johnson and his new bride Sylvia Elener Williams. It is thought the woman on the left may be Sylvia's sister and the man on the right her new husband.

Historical information

William (Bill) Johnson married Sylvia Williams in Wales in 1945. Sylvia was part of a group of women who made socks and sent them to the soldiers fighting in WWII. She included a letter with the socks, which was randomly received by Bill. He wrote back to her and they started to correspond. During leave, he went to Wales and met up with Sylvia and in 1945, they married. After WWII, Sylvia joined Bill in Australia.
