Overview

Rectangular piece of paper.
It has a blue background, within a double border of white and green. There is a white pennant with a cyan border across the top and curling down the left side of the sheet. There is a spray of wattle in the centre upper, and a green and a red apple with green leaves below.
There is text in various colours in the pennant, through the wattle and on the lower left of the label. Text in pennant [WATTLE BRAND], through wattle spray [WEST AUSTRALIAN APPLES / GROWN BY], lower right [EXPORTED BY / C.J.ELLERSHAW & CO. / PTY. LTD. / FREMANTLE / AUSTRALIA].
There are three light cyan boxes within the green border across the bottom with [FANCY] and [SIZE] in the outer two while the middle is blank.

Historical information

A unused fruit box label from an orchard export company called C.J. Ellershaw & Co Pty Ltd. The label was place on packed fruit identified as being for overseas export. The label includes a space where the name of the orcahrd that the fruit comes from can be written. The company would have sourced fruit for export from local orchards during this time.

Statement of significance

This object is part of a collection that represents the important role Agricultural and Horticultural Societies have played in the supporting, promotion and development of rural industries in the City of Armadale as well as providing significant social events that brought large parts of the community together to celebrate the achievements of local families, orchards, farmers and horticultural. Agricultural and horticultural societies have operated in the City of Armadale since 1897 when the Kelmscott Agricultural Society was formed.
