On his immediate left are Mr E. Newman, M.L.C., Captain John Thomas, Chairman of the Town Trust, who presented the address of welcome; also Mr George Pearse, The Rev. Joseph Johnston, Mr Joshua Harwood, Captain Humble, Lieut. Richard Birch and Colonel Finnerty. On the Governor's right are Colonel Harvest, Mr George Davies, Capt. C.H. Watson, Mr D.K. Congdon and other prominent colonists.'
