Overview

The image shows a narrow fronted shop with the entrance at the left. Bikes are displayed in the large front window and there are bikes and a scooter leaning against the front of the shop. Three men stand in front of the shop wearing dark work clothes. Advertising across the front of the shop says: 'Estd. 1908. Subiaco Gun and Cycle Works. D. Chalon and & Sons. Phone: 2561.' Other signage appears around the shop as follows: 'Agents for Jackson's'; 'Enameling'; Nickelling; 'Go Carts and Primus Stove Repairs'. Part of an adjoining shop can be seen on the left.

Handwritten by the donor on the back: 'This photo was taken approx. 1925. It (the property) belonged to my father, Mr Dan Chaloner, who is standing on the step. To his left is my brother, Mr Dan Chaloner, and to his right my other brother, Mr Bernard Chaloner. My father later rebuilt on this site and the empty block adjoining this small premises and the lane and there were two shops - one let to a chemist and the other occupied by my father and my brothers. In later years, after both my parents had died, the property was sold and taken over and modernised and is now occupied by the ANZ Bank at 114 Rokeby Road, Subiaco. For many years Barts Furniture Shop was next door to my father's shop and extended to Churchill Avenue.'
