ENGINE AT TOODYAY POWERHOUSE
c. 1941B&W photo. Machine outside a corrugated iron shed, with pipes entering shed.
Ladders can be seen on either side of the shed.
The engine has two large flywheels and attached to the same shaft is another wheel which has many belts which would be connected to a generator.
Shed was located behind the former flour mill building in Toodyay, Western Australia.
Probably the second-hand Ruston-Hornsby gas-powered engine purchased in 1941.
This was a cheaper method of producing power during war-time fuel shortages; however the engine required more work to keep it running.
