Below the photograph is the name of the photographer who produced the photo and the names of the players and team officials.

Historical information

The 1966 Claxton Shield was the 27th annual Claxton Shield and was held in Adelaide, South Australia. The participants were South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. The series was won by South Australia who finished ahead of Victoria on run percentage for their 9th title.

The 1966 Shield also marked the start of modern Australian players getting signed to the Major League system.

Contextual Information

The photograph was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the family of Rob Gordon. Rob was State team Manager throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In 1966 he was chosen as Australian Selector.
