The photo is black and white mounted on grey/green cardboard in a black wooden frame. Printed above the photo are the name of the team and the name and year of the competition. Below the photograph are the names of the players and team officials.
The 1959 Claxton Shield was the 20th annual Claxton Shield and was held in Melbourne, Victoria. It was originally scheduled for Perth, Western Australia, but when teams hinted at pulling out of the Shield that year due to travel costs, the venue was moved. The participants were South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. The series was won by South Australia, claiming their fifth Shield title.

Rob Gordon was Manager of the 1959 Western Australian State Baseball Team that competed in the Australian Championship Series for the Claxton Shield. This photograph was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by his son Mike Gordon.
