Historical information

The Claxton Shield is the name of the premier baseball competition in Australia held between state-based teams, as well as the name of the trophy awarded to the champion team. The 1967 Claxton Shield was the 28th annual Claxton Shield and was held in Perth, Western Australia from the 5th to15th October. The participants were South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland. The series was won by South Australia; their second consecutive win and 10th title.

This was the first series in the history of the game to be promoted by a League playing summer baseball, as all Australian States, other than Western Australia, continued to play baseball as a winter sport. It was thought that if the series was successful, other States would be influenced to make the change from winter to summer, and so enhance Australia's prospects for overseas competition. Another first for W.A. was the featuring of independent Chief Umpires in charge of each game.
