Victorian State Baseball Team Cap
A mid-blue Victorian State baseball team cap. Embroidered in white thread on the front of the crown is the letter 'V' cradling four stars. Embroidered on the left-hand side of the crown is the Australian Baseball Federation logo. It consists of a green oval-shape, with a band of yellow thread on either side. Inside the oval shape is an outline of Australia and the letters 'AB' in white thread and a baseballer in green thread. Inside the letter 'A' is a star in yellow thread. The six panels of the crown have embroidered blue eyelets and the top button is covered in blue fabric. Embroidered on the back two panels are the player's name and playing number. The cap peak is lined with tan fabric. Inside the crown the two front panels are lined with white fabric, with the baseballer's name and playing number handwritten on one of the panels. The tan sweatband is embroidered with the word 'Flexseam' four times in black thread. A manufacturer's label and a patent number label are attached inside the cap.
During the 1980s and 1990s Victoria was a very strong State in the Australian Baseball Championship Claxton Shield Series. Matthew Sheldon-Collins was a significant contributor to Victorian baseball at that time.

The cap was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Matthew Sheldon-Collins and complements the museum's collection of interstate, particularly Victorian, baseball memorabilia.
Matthew Sheldon-Collins, a well-known Victorian, Australian and Olympic baseball player, contributed to the development of baseball in Australia during the 1980s and 1990s. In 2007 he was inducted into the Baseball Australia Hall of Fame. This cap, made specifically for Sheldon-Collins and hand-inscribed with his name and playing number, has both historic and social significance and comes with impeccable provenance.
