Victorian State Baseball Team cap

Overview

A mid-blue Victorian State baseball team cap. Embroidered in white thread on the front of the crown is a laurel wreath cradling the letter 'V' and the five stars of the Southern Cross constellation. The six panels of the crown have embroidered blue eyelets and the top button is covered in blue fabric. Embroidered on the left-hand side of the crown is the Australian Baseball Federation logo. It consists of a green oval-shape, with a band of yellow thread on either side. Inside the oval shape is an outline of Australia and the letters 'AB' in white thread and a baseballer in green thread. Inside the letter 'A' is a star in yellow thread. The cap peak is lined with grey fabric with the letters 'MSC' handwritten in black felt pen on the underside. Inside the crown the front two panels are lined with white fabric. The tan sweatband is embroidered with the word 'Flexseam' in black thread. A manufacturer's label and a patent number label are attached inside the cap.

Historical information

This cap belonged to Matthew Sheldon-Collins, a stalwart of Victorian, Australian and Olympic baseball. The initials 'MSC' are hand-inscribed on the cap. Although no date is known for the cap, it is probably from the late 1980s and 1990s when Sheldon-Collins played for Victoria.
