Historical information

In 1896, Alfred and Rose Sandover bought an 8 acre property in Claremont, which they named Knutsford. The entry to Knutsford (lots 616/718) was from the Perth-Fremantle Road (later Stirling Highway).

The next owner was John Shaw Mackey, a pastoralist from Roy Hill Station near Nullagine. Then it was owned by an Ivy Isobel and Aubrey John McGlew from 1925-1928/9. Mr George Tueton Deans owned the property from 1928/9 until his death in 1938. The last private owner was James Walsh.

During World War II, Knutsford was used as a residence and training hospital for women in the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS) and the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD).

In 1951, the property was taken over by the Public Works Department.

In 1966, Knutsford became part of Christchurch Grammar School where became a boarding house.
